Court Dimensions:

A basketball court is 91.86ft long and 49.21ft wide. The total playing area for a court is 4520.43 ft² and 7290.5ft² if run-offs and sidelines are required.

The infield is exactly the same, with a 90ft-by-90ft diamond and a 60ft 6in long pitching distance. The outfield for high school baseball will measure at least 300ft down the foul lines on the left/right field and 400ft down the centerfield from the home plate.

The National Basketball Association, better known as the NBA, boasts the largest court dimensions of any level of basketball — domestic or international. The outer dimensions are 94 feet long by 50 feet wide. The half court line is, as the name would suggest, halfway between each end line.

Create the Necessary Space Around a Basketball Court

A minimum clearance of three feet is required around the perimeter of the basketball court, however 10 feet is highly recommended.

Regulation basketball hoops are suspended 10' | 3.05 m from the playing surface and have a standard rim diameter of 18” | 46 cm. The vertical backboard surface is made of plexiglass or tempered glass to prevent shattering and is sized at 42” x 72” | 110 x 183 cm.

The length is 42 ft longer than the width.

Court dimensions

The court is a flat, hard surface free from obstructions, 28m long and 15m wide, measured from the inner edge of the boundary line. The backcourt is the team's own basket, inbounds part of the backboard and the part of the playing court limited by their own endline, side lines and centre line.

The sidelines are the two boundaries lines running the length of the court. Their location is determined by the width of the court, which is normally 50 feet wide. Along with Baseline and End line they establish the size of the playing area.

The NBA has a 22-foot 3-point line in the corners and a 23-foot, 9-inch line elsewhere. The WNBA and the international game plays with a 20-foot, 6-inch line. The NCAA men's game has a 20-foot, 9-inch line while the NCAA women and high schools have a 19-foot, 9-inch line.

How to measure a basketball hoop? ›

Have one person climb the ladder and place one end on the tape measure at the front tip of the rim so it is even with the TOP side of the rim. Drop the tape measure straight down to the playing surface to check the distance. The tape measure should read 10 feet for regulation basketball, typically ages 11 and older.

Some leagues for young children play on shorter hoops, but from junior high schools through the professional leagues, the game is played on hoops of the standard 10-foot height.

The cheapest way to make a basketball court is to install a portable hoop on your existing driveway. If that's not an option, you can build a small 30'x30' half-court, which gives you enough space for 3-on-3 streetball.

Ceiling. The ceiling and anything hanging from it (other than the basket) should be at least 25 feet above the playing court and higher if possible.

High School basketball court dimensions
