Another fantastic thing about Food Optimising is that no food is banned. The key is moderation, which is why alcohol and foods that are high in fat or sugar have a Syn value. Slimming World members are encouraged to plan 5-15 Syns a day to keep their weight loss on track, without feeling like they're missing out.
If you ask any slimming World Consultant, they will all tell you that eating a fresh banana is one of our free foods. No one disagrees with that. Go and enjoy your banana.
The Slimming World app is free for members and includes our food planner, activity and weight loss tracker, plus great features to help you make the best possible choices in seconds! There's also plenty of motivation and inspiration, putting you in control.
Research shows that it may aid weight loss, encourage healthy habits, and improve overall health. If you're interested in trying the Slimming World diet, keep in mind that your success will depend on how committed you are to following the plan and attending meetings.
While the Slimming World diet emphasizes low-fat foods, the carb-heavy approach doesn't work for everyone. The limited food options may leave you feeling restricted, hungry and deprived over time.
Some of them might surprise you! Before coming to Slimming World, many slimmers are told to avoid carbs – yet carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes and pasta have fantastic filling power, as well as being low in energy density, which is why they're on our Free Food list.
In fact, potatoes and dried plain pasta, rice, noodles and couscous are all Free Foods, which means that you can eat as much of them as you like! If you fancy some quick, comforting carbs, our healthy pasta and rice recipes will hit the spot.
While WW is all about the needs of the individual, Slimming World takes a different and much more generalised approach with food optimising. This is based on everyday foods that are low in calories and high in nutrients, but the same system is applied to everyone.
Slimming World on Referral gives GPs, nurses and other health professionals the opportunity to offer free membership of a local Slimming World group to those patients who they feel would benefit.
Slimming World members typically lose 1-2lbs per week by Food Optimising, although many of our members lose more than this – especially in their early weeks. And your dream weight is your choice.
It's based on nutrition science that shows that foods higher in protein and carbohydrate are more satiating than foods high in fat. Encouraging a higher intake of more satiating foods helps to limit energy intake and results in weight loss.
You will likely lose weight on any diet if you eat less than 910 calories a day. But losing 10 pounds in 3 days is both unlikely and unhealthy. To lose just 1 pound of body fat, you need to reduce your daily calories by about 500 a day for a whole week. That's giving up 3,500 calories over the course of 7 days.
Slimming World shows you how to cut calories without counting them. The stroke of genius that makes Food Optimising so easy and so effective is Free Food – healthy, satisfying food you can enjoy in unlimited amounts whenever you're hungry.
The foods that are least filling and are higher in calories, like biscuits, sweets and alcohol, count as Syns at Slimming World. Enjoying a little of what you fancy — like a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine — means you won't be tempted to go off track.
The concept of Free Foods promotes consumption of plenty of low energy dense and highly satiating foods, eg poultry, fish, lean meat, pasta, grains, vegetables and fruit, which can be eaten without restriction. Members are encouraged to use these foods to satisfy their appetite while reducing overall energy intake.
At Slimming World, we don't believe in cutting out food groups. In fact, potatoes and dried plain pasta, rice, noodles and couscous are all Free Foods, which means that you can eat as much of them as you like! If you fancy some quick, comforting carbs, our healthy pasta and rice recipes will hit the spot.
